Abruptly the whiskey bottle came flying at Darren’s head. Darren must make a choice, turn and run down the stairs and hope Blake didn’t come flying downstairs or drop his bag and fight. Usually, Darren was not one to fight. The only person he ever really had fought was his brother. But he did like to run and to weight lift. And his reflexes were quick. Besides, he wasn’t drunk like Blake. So, he stood his ground.
Blake swore explicitly when the bottle flew past Darren. He was tired and seeing double. Blake threw the bottle at the other Darren, thinking it was real. But he was wrong. And now Blake would have to stop Darren himself. And he was feeling sluggish. But Blake had to do it. So he put his head down and charged at Darren, screaming.
Darren saw Blake head sideways, so he stepped to one side and let him smash into the door frame of the middle bedroom. He smiled, hearing the crack of his head on the wood.
But Blake wasn’t done yet. He managed to get to his feet one more time, turned, and lunged at Darren. This time Blake went to grab him around the waist, but Darren was ready for him. He put up a knee, and it caught Blake in the face. Blake bounced backward, hitting the door again, this time with the back of his head. Blake did not get up again. Darren shook his head, bent over him, and watched to make sure he was breathing.
