They were at Mr. Turner’s door now. He opened it and beckoned her inside. She entered as he asked. “So if you woke up tomorrow and could do anything you wanted to do, would you stay in California?”
“Yes, I think so, maybe not the city. I like it better as you go north.” But, again, she had said the wrong thing. Amanda had not been much more north than where she was now. She bit her cheek.
“North bay or further north?” Leonard asked; he was making mental notes now.
She glanced at him. “Either, I like fewer people around and less activity.”
Again her eyes caused something to happen inside Leonard. He put his hand on his abdomen. Yes, that was it. Amanda was giving him butterflies. “I do too.” He found himself saying. And it was true. It had been Julianne that had wanted to live in the middle of the city.
“Do you want me to sit on your couch?” Amanda was still looking at him, but she gestured.
“I want to show you the view before the food gets here.” He explained, pointing to the balcony. He had a feeling Amanda would appreciate it. Julianne never had.
“OK.” She replied and nodded. Again she checked in on her insides. Amanda was a little surprised; her emotions were not numb anymore; Amanda found she was enjoying herself. It had been years and years since her last personal conversation. No, that was not right. Amanda had a lot of conversations. What did she mean? It was Ana that had not had a conversation recently. Yes, but she was Amanda.
