Justin focused his mind. He closed his eyes and shut out Mrs. McQueen. He shut out Katherine and her mother. He shut out everything and focused on Snookie. In his mind he saw him. He stood in the dark covered in cobwebs. There was dirt caked under his paws, and he looked terrified. Justin smiled. He opened his eyes.
“Do you have a flashlight Mrs. McQueen?” He knew she did. Mrs. McQueen had a lot of first aid and survival equipment.
“Of course, just a minute.” Mrs. McQueen turn and ran into the house.
Justin closed his eyes again. Where under this big house was Snookie? He found him again and this time looked around Snookie and his mind’s eye trying to find a distinguishing feature in the dark.” He saw pipes, tubes, holes, and cracks. He saw one crack. It opened to the outside; bright sunlight was streaming in. A little patch of sunlight was falling across Snookie’s tail. Justin Walked around the house, slowly studying the wall within a foot of the ground. Finally on the north side (near the back of the house) he found the crack. He closed his eyes. Snookie was still there. He was now looking towards the hole. His tail was thumping in frustration.
Justin headed back towards the front of the house. Mrs. McQueen was just coming out the front door calling, “got it.” But Justin put his fingers to his lips. He beckoned to her, and she came.
“I found him.” He said softly.
“Where?” She asked, eyes opened wide.
“Back here. But there is no opening. How can I get under there?” He asked, pointing to the wall where Snookie was hiding. A car passed by on the road. Justin ignored it.
