“Open the Door, Let the Sun In”

“Yes? What is the matter?” He leaned closer. Darren’s right hand came off her arm and brushed a hair out of her eyes.
“I want a hug.” She murmured, still whispering
Darren’s voice got serious. “You want me to hug you?” He asked.
“I want to sit up; I want to get myself up. but I don’t know if I can.” She confessed. She felt nervous doing the exercises the physical therapist had shown her. She was afraid it would damage her ribs. Though the therapist promised they wouldn’t.
“So you don’t want me to pull you up. Can I help you?” Darren let go of Lea’s hand and put his arm out, palm open. “If you clutch my arm, you could try to pull yourself up into a sitting position.”
“Okay. But let me try. Don’t just pull me up, promise?” She instructed. He nodded, and Lea clasped Darren’s wrist with her left hand. She wasn’t sure she could hold him with her right as it was still in a cast. So she tugged with her left arm and found that she could pull herself up a little. Her head, though, fell backward. She struggled for a moment till she felt Darren’s right hand behind her head.
“It’s okay.” He whispered when her eyes darted towards his face. “Just this once.”
Once she was sitting up, she loosened her grip on his arm and lifted her left arm as high as possible, about chest level. Darren sat on the bed and wrapped her up in a hug in one movement. She forgot to breathe for a few seconds as she felt enveloped in a warm electric fluid. She could feel the butterflies striking her diaphragm. Lea could feel his heart beating against her breast and his lungs inhaling and exhaling. The sensation came through his shirt and her hospital gown. She blushed, realizing it was all she had on. But he loved her. He had said so.
