“The Day the Skyfel: Ground Zero”

He had made it sound like they were on top of it. When it came to restoring the electricity and other utilities, they were not. There were miles and miles of wires and equipment, and they had only approached a few people because of the fear that the individuals would turn and tell others. The possibility that only one would show up, or maybe none of the recruits would make it to the shelters, and the covers were not well protected. It was a lost cause. There was a possibility the Skycendelvins would come back within a few years and wipe everyone off the face of the earth. He had a headache. He took off his glasses again and rubbed his eyes.
He took a deep breath and held it. He realized then that Leo was watching him, slowly caressing Ana’s head in soft circles. His cheek rested on her head. He did deserve her; Leo was caring and attentive. More than he ever could be.
Mr. Abbott let the air out and cleared his throat. “I need to explain the mission, and you guys are under no obligation to carry it out. It is already a death run. But,” he switched papers around again. “If you guys decide to help us, the mission is to locate the portal. You are both strongly associated with the host and scout, as I said. If anyone could find the portal without getting killed, you two would be.” He turned to Leo. “For example, you are divorcing her; you could use the excuse of paperwork she did not fill out correctly; I know I said don’t go back to the house. That only applies if you are walking away. But if you take the mission, ignore that warning.”
He sighed and pointed at one of the papers. “Here is the area we narrowed it down to before—” he trailed off. “We are 99% sure it is here. If we cannot find it, we will set off a nuke of our own on the date and time; roughly 10:50 am. The moment is a worldwide agreed-upon set time. It is a different hour based on the timezone. The only problem with using our weapons is that we do not know the construction of the building the portal sits in unless we find it. It may be underground. In which case, the nuke may not be powerful enough to destroy it. It is a gamble.
