“Moment by Moment”

Justin realized she would not stop if he called again. So, he didn’t bother spending his breath. He could not believe it. Brenda had been able to get up from the table without him realizing it was about to occur or glimpsing her as she departed. What was wrong with him! It had to be because he was intentionally blocking her out of his mind. Otherwise, it would have never come about this way. He had known about the plan, of course. As with all things concerning Katherine, he saw them within a few days to a few minutes before events materialized. The bigger the situation, the further out he saw it.
He had known a few days about the SUV. He began scanning the parking lot. It had to be here somewhere already. Seeing nothing, he turned his eyes back towards Katherine. He had almost caught up to her. Only a few more feet, and he could grab her if needed or push her out of the way. Whichever worked better.
They were at the car. It was at the back of the lot and to the right. Katherine could see the bumper. She only had to cross the blacktop one more time. She didn’t pause. She didn’t stop or look from side to side. Instead, she beelined towards the car with renewed speed.
Suddenly it was there. The SUV was black with tinted windows and blaring music came bumping from within. The sun was behind the trees, and it was getting dark in this corner of the parking lot. It was headed straight for her at 40 miles per hour. It was 5 feet away. Katherine saw it too late to do anything. It was going to hit her head on.
Suddenly a force whacked her from behind. It was Justin, but she could not see him. With the momentum she already had and the added velocity of Justin’s speed and weight, they made it out of the way of the SUV with inches to spare. As Justin shoved her out of the way, he wrapped her bare arms tightly in his and twisted his body sideways. When they landed on the concrete in-between two cars, he absorbed the impact with his body. He didn’t even care. He had managed to save her from being hit, and that was all that mattered.
