“The Day the Skyfel: Ground Zero”

He turned to Ana and helped her back to the edge of the rock; he explained, with one arm around her back, “I am going to lower myself down till I have to let go, and then I want you to slide over the edge in my direction. I should be able to keep your head above the water.” He kissed her forehead again.
Ana gave an incredibly soft, “okay.” She was staring at the water, scared of the cold, fearful of slipping out of the harness he had made her, scared of how long it might take.
“It will be okay.” He whispered, putting his other arm back around her for a moment, and squeezing her tightly; she was shivering slightly and seemed colder than she had a few minutes before. “I will check every few minutes that you are still attached, and we will make it back to shore. Just lay on your back and move your arms and legs whatever way you did on your journey here, and you will be okay.” He kissed her.
The delay was only bringing on the night; Leo gave her one last tight hug and told her it was time; he turned and lowered himself into the water, dropping down the rock wall the last foot and a half. He glanced up, worried that he had yanked on her and pulled her down, but she was still perched at the edge, her face wrapped in terror, unmoving.
“Okay, Ana.” He raised his voice a little as the ocean filled his ears. He lifted his arms. “Come on, my gorgeous agent, Just slide off; I’ve got you.”
Ana was shaking so bad she could not even lift her hands off the rock. She did not want to do this, but there was no option to stay. Ana closed her eyes and fought the tears. She sent a prayer heavenward. “Please, please, don’t let me be hurt anymore. Please let us both get to land together.” Then she forced herself to lean back and move her rear to the edge of the rock. She kept her eyes closed till she was teetering on the very brink. She opened her eyes and shrieked as she toppled forward into the freezing water.
