 He froze there for a moment. The bump in the middle had most definitely moved and he’d heard something like a gasp not animal perhaps human female

 Lee was not scared.  No but he was hesitant if there was a person under the tarp might it try to jump at him or perhaps try to run.  He repositioned himself to be between the lump in the tarp and the door and he put up his right arm ready to catch an escapee.  For the second time he reached out for the tarps corner and brushed it with his fingertips then his thumb caught it. He counted down to three and yanked it off.

 There was a blur of motion; in fact Zia had heard him enter. She was ninety percent positive that someone had sent her father and the other man away. But she couldn’t be certain not only that somebody was in the shed with her and that somebody might find her

 She heard the person come closer and suddenly the tarp was yanked off her head. She had almost forgotten where the door was but she made a blind leap for it only to end up with an arm around her

She stifled a shriek and fought off the body. But he was taller and stronger

“Hey. Hey!” He said, as he wrapped both arms around the girl. He could see and feel the body was female, and scared out of its wits. ”your okay, I won’t hurt you, honest.” He was trying to speak softly, in case the men came back. It was obvious to him, she was what they were looking for.

“Look,” he finally said grabbing her around the waist and holding her left wrist with his right and right elbow with his left. “ I’m not letting you go until you talk to me”

 She struggled a little but by now he had her firmly.  His mouth was near her right ear and she could feel his heartbeat in her shoulder blade. She was hyperventilating and had closed her eyes tight.  He wasn’t her father or the man who assaulted her. Still she didn’t trust him or his intentions.  

 “ I know they were looking for you,” he whispered as he felt her stop struggling.  “And I know you were hiding from them; But tell me why you were in my shed, and why you were hiding from them, and I’ll let you go.

 Zia’s popped open.  She was scared and scared to say the words. But he was asking and she had to respond with something.  She struggled to formulate ideas.  It was difficult.

 Finally she opened her mouth and out came the words, “my dad she said he let the other man —“ she swallowed,  And again her eyes closed.

“ One of those men were your dad?” Lee asked, And he was trying to see her face now trying to guess her age. She nodded. “ and he let the other man do something to you?” He whispered. Again she nodded. He swallowed then almost afraid to ask or guess what she was holding back. But it didn’t really matter if her father had allowed the other man put his hands on her in any way, it was wrong, if she hadn’t given her permission
