Day of the Skyfel: Ground Zero

“We aren’t going to make it across before the self-destruct explodes. ” Leo glanced over at her. “I would hope we are far enough away, but what if the shock wave hits the bridge? “

Ana was crying silently for the death of millions of people. But she focused on Leo.

“What should we do? ” She asked him, eyes wide.

“Let’s get out and walk. The traffic is moving too slowly. I can walk faster than this. You can walk, right? Or am I going to have to carry you? ” Leo asked and suddenly grabbed her hand and kissed it.

“Leo, I will walk. If it’s life or death, I’ll run. ” Ana squeezed his hand.

“Okay. I am coming around. I want to hold hands with you. ” Leo smiled.

She nodded and gasped out, “me too. “

Leo turned the engine off and parked the car in the middle of the road. He got out and ran around, helping her stand. They kissed each other quickly and then began to walk as fast as they could toward the Marin headlands. He did not even look back at the Tesla with regret. Few other people were walking, but enough to prevent them from running.

“Let’s go towards the Marin headlands. It is away from the direct line of sight of San Francisco’s skyline. ” Leo explained, panting between breaths and pointing to the left side of the road as they neared the end of the bridge.

“Okay, ” Ana agreed, having trouble stopping herself from screaming at the others surrounding them, begging the populous to run for their lives.
