“Open the Door, Let the Sun In”
“You are awake,” he proclaimed, and this time, there was no mistaking the joy in his voice.
“Why are you here?” She asked. Finally, she was able to ask her question. There wasn’t anything else she could have asked. What do you say to a stranger that is always bedside when you wake and hasn’t explained why they’re there?
Darren looked surprised and slightly embarrassed. “Because I hit you with my truck,” he responded, struggling a little to find the words.
“But it’s not your fault.” She explained. “Why do you feel like you’re responsible.” She began to run out of oxygen again as she spoke the long sentences.
“I was driving my truck, and you were in the road. I hit you.” He replied, wrinkling his brow. “I should have been able to miss you. But I hit you. How is it not my fault?”
“It is not your fault because I stood in the road waiting for you to hit me,” Lea explained. She began to struggle, trying to sit up again. Finally, she could get slightly up on one side after a few minutes. But her pain worsened.
“You wanted to be hit? Why?” Now, it was Darren’s turn to ask the questions. He studied her.
“Because I wanted to die,” she announced it without ceremony and matter of factly without emotion. Exactly why shouldn’t she confess the truth? Maybe if she were honest, he would go away. His leaving the room and never returning was what she wanted. She narrowed her eyes to block out the light and watched him for signs of movement. Here is another peek. Available now!

“Rightly Wrong or Wrongly Right”
It was a long while before she got out of the shower. Finally, she found some underwear and a nightgown and put a black and white movie on low. Then she went to her bed and lay down. She wanted to sleep but wasn’t sure she could. It was 1 pm.
Adara fell to sleep while watching old movies. The sound was so low she wasn’t even sure what they had been saying. So instead, she imagined what was said based on facial expressions and movements around the set. But eventually, Adara fell to sleep.
In her dream, everyone was staring at her and pointing. Then, unexpectedly, an older woman grabbed Adara from behind. She screamed, “whore, you must be purified by blood!”
Adara struggled in her dream but could not break free. The older woman held her by the right hand and stabbed her through her palm breaking the skin. She was shrieking all the while. “Suffer the death of Christ!!”
Adara woke in a cold sweat. She was shivering. She struggled out of the blanket and sheet and crawled to the other side of the bed. The clock read 9:35 pm. Adara realized then she was shaking. She held her hands out and watched them quiver for a few moments before finally getting up to go to the bathroom.
She took another shower. It was still early, and she had time to kill. She was sure her mother and Marshall wouldn’t be asleep till much later. She sat in the corner again and repeated her behavior earlier in the day. She looked heavenward and implored, “Please God, help me get away from this house tonight. Please, I want to be back with Dean. Please.” She closed her eyes, wrapped them around her knees, and rocked herself back and forth for a while.Available now:

“On the Hill” snippet
I fought back the tears and wrapped my fingers through his collar, and began pulling him towards the door. Stan had already threatened him once, and I had no doubt he would think of killing him if I was successful at getting away. I was stumbling out of the front door pulling Buster along with me, when I heard the back door open, hitting the coffee table with a thud. I didn’t even wait. I began staggering towards my car. I could hear Stan behind me. He was swearing up a storm and stomping towards the front door.
I didn’t even walk around to the driver’s side. I opened the passenger side and let Buster go. He immediately jumped inside. I heard the front door slam open, and I dove into my car, banging my knee so badly I couldn’t even breathe. I used my left arm, feeling my joint pop out of the socket. But I did it. I hit the lock button on the door just as Stan reached it.
We stared at each other for a moment through the glass. I was in so much pain I wasn’t sure I could get into the driver’s seat. Suddenly he hit the door with such a force my window rattled. He put his face right against the glass. His eyes were burning. “I will tell your mom you’ve been keeping secrets from her about a relationship with the man who gave you the locket if you report what just happened.” My window was cracked ever so slightly.
I still couldn’t move. I was stuck on the floor of the passenger seat. When I left the house, I hadn’t had a plan. I had only wanted to get away from him. I hadn’t wanted to be violently assaulted anymore. But his words put a sudden deep longing into my chest. Erik, I wanted to go to Angwin to see Erik.Available on May 25th

Katherine didn’t move. She was gazing at something on her desk. The note was still there; she could see it. It was still on top of her schoolbooks, where it had fluttered when she had dropped it. Neither of them realized a letter existed. But Katherine remembered. Her secret was safe. Justin was her secret. Only she knew about him. Her face cracked into a small smile.
Mark noticed the smile. He opened his mouth to say something. Then he shut it and turned to Matthew. “Did you want to say something, Dad?” He asked. Katherine’s smile vanished at the word, “Dad.” She didn’t look at either of them. She moved her eyes down to her bedspread and the purple and blue pattern.
Matthew was looking attentively at Katherine. “No, nothing. I just wanted to know how Kathy,” he paused. Matthew spoke as if she was absent. But He began again. “I mean, how are you feeling, Kathy?” He inquired, attempting to dismiss the feeling; Katherine was miles away.
There was a long silence in which both guys stared at her. Then her voice came gradually, as if from a distant location. “I’m fine.”
Mark, as she spoke, fought the overpowering emotion he suffered to go to her and shake her. If that didn’t fix it, he would shout at her that he knew about the secret she was protecting and that she might as well confess it.
But Matthew only smiled and acted as if he had not heard the unusual tone or glimpsed her strange behavior. “Wonderful,” he announced. “I was just wondering if you were coming down with a cold or something. I thought I’d ask.” He hesitated. Then he added, “You were so quiet at dinner, and you didn’t eat much.”
Katherine finally shifted her eyes from her bedspread and gazed towards Matthew. “I am fine. I feel fine. I do not know why everyone is suddenly so worried about me all the time. I was full because I overate when I got home from school. I told you guys -.” She was not gazing directly at Matthew. Her eyes were staring to the side of him or beyond him.
Matthew kept on smiling like nothing was wrong. “Oh Kathy, we ask because we are family. And that means we are supposed to worry about each other.” He turned his attention to Mark and said, “Let’s go. There’s an awesome show coming on TV that I want you to see.”Available May 5th

“The Day the Skyfel: Ground Zero” snippet
She did not have a warning. One minute she was smiling and thanking God for life. The next minute something hit her from above, smashed right into her right side. She did not have time to react or figure out what had hit her. She toppled sideways and off the path. She rolled a little; shrieking filled her ears, but it was not her shrieking. It was a woman, the thing that had hit her was a woman, and she was shrieking.
Leo looked back in time to see Ana grab onto the side of the cliff with her fingernails digging into the dirt and rock. “Ana.” He bellowed. Leo grabbed her left hand. He gripped it and managed to wrap her left hand around his right hand, holding her on the cliff.
But Ana was slipping. Her leg pulled taught. The woman had grabbed ahold of her right ankle. It burned; it felt like someone was yanking her leg off her body. Ana was gritting her teeth and holding on with everything she had, but the woman was pulling her off with just as much force.
“Ana,” Leo whispered. He was searching her face. Something was wrong; he felt something had happened to her lower half; she was frozen and grinding her teeth with a look of sheer pain on her face.
Ana managed to look into Leo’s eyes. There were tears now, and they poured out as she showed Leo the panic she felt. “Something has my foot.” She gasped and squeezed his hand back weakly. “I’m being pulled off the rock. I can’t hold on.” She was sobbing now. “Leo, you have to let me go. There is no point in both of us dying.”Science fiction epic adventure!

“Open the Door, Let the Sun In” snippet
Darren walked into the living room, but he was in for a shock. He let out a “Lea?” But she wasn’t there. She had heard the two talking in the other room and had panicked. One of her fears happened to be people talking about her behind her back in her mind. And here it was happening, Darren was talking to Blake, two men were talking about her in the other room, and she was terrified.
She moved as quickly and as silently as she could. Finally, she managed to make it to Darren’s bedroom she slept in. But then she had another panic; he would lead him right to her. She was on the bed, but she jumped back up and began to walk down the hall towards one of the other bedrooms. But then she heard Darren’s voice.
Alarmed, she ran as quickly as she could into the spare bedroom, hitting her hip in the process. It hurts so much she almost fell over. But she managed to dive into the closet. It was relatively empty, and then she held her breath. She wasn’t sure what she hoped to carry out as Darren would know she was somewhere in the house. All she could do was delay the inevitable.Click link to read more

“Rightly Wrong or Wrongly Right” snippet
Adara didn’t stay to hear her mother’s reply. Instead, she rose to her feet and fled out of the room, nearly stumbling in her high heels. Marshall was right behind her. But unfortunately, she didn’t discern his presence behind her till she practically tripped over the first step of the staircase.
Marshall yanked her left arm, preventing her from falling and keeping her from heading up the stairs. Adara didn’t glance at him but struggled to break free of his clasp. “I think your sister is right. You need to be checked by a doctor.” He was speaking softly in her ear.
From the doorway into the living room came the sound of Adara’s mother’s voice raised in anger. “But it’s going to be all over the news tonight! You know how curious people are. I’ll never hear the end of it.”
Adara jerked her arm away from Marshall, and he let her go. She had the glass in her hand, but she dropped it onto the red-colored carpet. The cup didn’t break but landed on its side. Adara gazed at the spreading water. Slowly it created a shiny hue on the rug. The texture reminded her of blood. She felt sick and turned away rapidly, then began to run up the stairs. She used the railing to haul herself up and keep her balance. Her head felt light, and spots were swimming before her eyes.
“Adara?” Jody called after her. She joined Marshall at the foot of the stairs. They were both gazing up at her, watching her progress.
Adara did not hesitate when she heard her name. She kept moving till she had reached the top of the stairs. But Adara paused for a moment, hand still on the railing. She was uncertain. What would occur if she let go of the rail? Adara felt so lightheaded. As she stood there, the world around her turned unexpectedly black. She couldn’t see anything. The hallway in front of her disappeared from her sight. She wasn’t there anymore. She wasn’t at the top of the stairs holding onto the railing. Instead, a memory, a dream without being asleep, encircled her.Click link to read more

“Moment by Moment” snippet
He murmured into her ear. “It’s okay. You are going to be okay. I will keep you safe.” She could feel his breath moving past, caressing her left ear, resulting in a tingling sensation. The serenity that had been torn from her moments before returned.
She wanted to peek. She wanted to, but she didn’t. She kept her eyes tightly fastened. “How will I know that you are around and that I am safe?” She mumbled back.
She felt his chin brush her head above her left ear. “Because,” he said, still speaking in a whisper. “I will always be here to keep you safe for the rest of my life.” Then he gave both her hands a squeeze, and he moved away, letting go of her.
Katherine’s senses were shouting at her again. “Don’t let him get away!!!” But she stood still. It was as if she had turned to stone. Her eyes remained sealed. The electricity was still surging from one corner of her body to the other in ripples. She could hear her heart thumping in her ears.
But now, she could also hear the commotion of the other students. They were still shouting and laughing. Car engines were rumbling to life, and car stereos were pounding out songs. The disturbances were coming from the front of her and to her right.https://books2read.com/b/mvWV9j
