After the Rain
Buddy was getting impatient. He was leaning on my leg now. He was looking at my face expectantly hoping for attention. Finally, he decided to take things into his own paws. With a skilled leap he jumped on the couch next to me and bumped against my shoulder, knocking me to the left, right into Ben.
“Oh!” I cried out, trying to stop myself but landed right in Ben’s waiting arms. My foot and the ice he had just rested on the injury twisted with a jerk and the ice tipped from it, falling onto the coffee table. Ben had seen Buddy jump and cause the chain reaction and he had turned his body slightly, so that both has hands and arms were now around my body.
“Opps.” He replied. “Buddy! Naughty dog, shoo.” He had sat me back upright, but his right arm was around my shoulders. He was waving his left hand at Buddy, trying to get him to go back on the floor.
“He’s okay.” I said gasping, clutching my fists up to my chin and leaning into Ben. “it’s his couch too.” I added, glancing towards Buddy.
“ Are you sure?” Ben asked. He stopped waving his hand and I felt him pulling me closer till my side and shoulder was touching his body.
“Yes, it is okay. I love him, he is just trying to be part of this.” I was looking at Buddy and automatically reached out a hand to pat him.
“Do you mean, he wants to be part of our date?” Ben asked, practically whispering into my left ear. His breath tickled.
My left hand jerked to cover my ear. And I turned my head to peek at him. He was so close, and peering down at me, smiling a smile. His eyes were full of tenderness and lust. Him tug me closer again.
“Yes.” I gasped, feeling like I could not get enough air. I wanted to look away but this was what I wanted. I could not kiss someone if I didn’t force myself to look at them.
“Is it okay I hug you?” Ben asked, he was searching my eyes, the smile had faded slightly. His word held a note of worry.
I nodded, but added, “It’s fine.” But I shivered, a involuntary reaction.
“Are you cold still?” He asked, now with concern.
“Just a little.” I thought of something, and forced my leg and hands to move closer to his body. They were legitimately cold still. I tucked my hands in between my leg and his.
“Why don’t I….” Ben scooted over a few inches till our hips to our knees were touching. “And if you want you could put your fingers under my shirt, that would be warmer than in between our legs.Read more:

On the Hill
“I don’t want any trouble,” Stan announced. “Please, I don’t want to be arrested. I don’t want any cops.” He glanced back at Erik.
“Watch the road, please. You aren’t driving your vehicle. You are driving mine.” Erik replied.
Stan faced forward. “What do you want me to do, bro?”
“I want my car back and you out of our lives,” Erik replied. He was looking at the side of my face.
“If I stop the car, will you let me go without cops?” Stan asked.
Erik fell silent a moment and removed his right arm. I couldn’t see it, but later, he told me he had a smile. Because this whole conversation he had recorded. He had gotten in the car and hit record on his phone. But now he was dialing 911.
“Why would I call the cops?” He asked, As soon as the number was dialed and answered.
Stan glanced back at him. “Because, you know, I took your car without permission?”
“Oh, yeah. Watch the road!” He instructed. I could hear the smile and Erik’s voice by this point. But he kept talking. “You are still driving it, too, aren’t you?”
“Yes, but I would like to stop and give the wheel back to you, bro; I mean it. I’m not going to pull any funny business; I want to give you back your wheel. And I don’t want any cops.” Stan was talking with his right hand waving around.
“Well, maybe I don’t want to let you go and have you not suffer any consequences,” Erik announced.
“Please, bro.” Stan was whining now. “Hey, What is your name?” He asked.
“I’m Erik, and I already know your name. It’s Stan.” Erik replied.
“Erik, I’m sorry that I took your car. I honestly didn’t know Miranda had agreed to marry you. I would have never taken your car otherwise.” Stan was definitely panicking.
“Where are you going to pull over?” Erik asked. We were at the four way stop now at the bottom of the hill.
“ I don’t know, somewhere down the trail?” He explained and pointed.
“Why don’t you turn off at Pope Street and drive into a college parking lot so we can exchange the wheel properly.” Erik was speaking with a highly calm voice about the circumstances. But of course, he was speaking clearly so that the emergency operator could hear him.Available now!

The Day the Skyfel: Shadows of the Past
“Sam.” He declared, shaking his shoulder a little. “Sam!” Sam made a noise, an incredibly soft sound. Cameron thought the sound could belong to a child. “Sam,” he shook him again. Sam’s eyes fluttered but did not stay open. And then he groaned. Again, the sound was soft and like a child. Cameron wanted to stop and carry him to the basement. But, he thought, “third times a charm.” Once more, he said, “Sam!”
Sophia awoke with a start. She was cold and felt so tired and shaky. She opened her eyes and recoiled. Cameron was right in front of her. His face was inches away. He seemed blurry, but it was him. Sophia let out a small squeak that sounded like an injured animal.
“It’s okay, Sam.” Cameron explained.
Sam. Sam. Who was Sam. She panicked. But then she remembered. It was Sam. It all came flooding back. Sophia had disguised herself as a boy to fool all men because one had tried to kill her. And now she was here with Cameron. But why did she feel so sick? She shivered.
“Sam. Your leg infection makes your whole body feel sick, and I need to give you an IV with antibiotics. I am going to carry you downstairs, okay?” He was talking very slowly and carefully.
What? Sophia could not understand. What was he saying? Carry her downstairs? What did that mean? And he could not carry her. What if he felt something wrong, something missing, or something else? She shivered again. “I walk.” She said, but it sounded more like a door hinge than a voice.
“No. No. You cannot do it. You cannot walk downstairs.” Cameron shook his head. He knew Sam could not do it. He could barely walk last night. The stairs were steep and narrow.
Sophia felt like she could not breathe. There was not enough air. She should try to escape out the front door. But Cameron needed to leave the room. An idea popped into her head. “water,” she gasped. “Water.”
This made sense to Cameron as a fever would cause dehydration. “Okay. I will get you some.” He stood and left the room. -

“Moment by Moment”
“Don’t say that. Do not think that. They are not permanent. And you are definitely worth some scrapes and bruises.” He spoke.
“Am I?” Katherine glanced at him shyly.
They were pulling into her school parking lot. Justin pulled up to the unloading zone, turned to her, took her hand, and gazed in her eyes and spoke. “You are worth everything I ever owned and everyone I ever knew.” They stared at each other for a moment. She realized then that there were other students streaming around them. A few had stopped or paused while walking to see who the dark blue mustang belonged to and who was inside. Some had already recognized Katherine and had started gossiping.
Katherine began to pick up her bag and turned to get out. But she hesitated. “Can I kiss you one more time before I go?” She said, not looking at him but peering out the window.
“For your classmates?” He inquired, entertained by the conversation.
But she thought he was irritated. “No for me, to feel that feeling one more time.”
“What feeling?” He wanted her to gaze at him, but she didn’t.
“The secure and happy feeling. I,” she swiveled to him finally, hesitating to look down at her hands as she did so. “I want to feel it before I go. Who knows what Brenda has in store for me.” She blinked. She was beginning to feel scared.
“Of course. But do not be frightened. I am a text or a call away. If you need me to come early, just text and come here right here to this spot, I’ll be here.” Justin said, pointing to the sidewalk.
She her eyes darted out of the window, trying to memorize the spot, but he caressed her chin with his finger, and she permitted her face to be led back to him. “Anywhere here, darling, anywhere in unloading. I’ll be waiting for you.” They kissed then, moving in mutually together. Now Available

“The Day the Skyfel: Ground Zero”
Ana did not understand half of it. But she did understand enough to panic. She looked up at Leo and whispered. “This is bad.”
Leo nodded. Then he pointed, whispering back. “Target is Julianne, right? “
Ana nodded, staring at his finger and the words.
“This says she isn’t human.” Leo’s heart was pounding in his ears, and he felt as if he were going to throw up, but it explained a lot of the life he had been living with Julianne.
“It says the other names we provided are assumed assimilated. What do you think that means? That they are not human either?” Ana hissed and gripped his arm.
“Ana, do you remember what I told you the first day we met?” Leo grabbed her hand in his.
“There was so much, but do you mean not trusting your wife or the people she hires?” Ana whispered. Leo nodded. “You said we were the only real people here. And I thought you were trying to seduce me. I was terrified.” Ana’s eyes were huge. Leo gave her a side hug and turned back to the paper.
“Disengage immediately. Does that mean we should leave tonight?” Leo asked, pointing to the paper.
Ana stared at it. “I don’t know.” She was shivering suddenly. “But I would say disengage means leave and immediately is now. So it could be. But how would they know when I would get the letter?” she was searching his eyes.
“Look, Ana,” Leo took her hands in his. “We just brought a house today. We do not need to be here anymore. You were quitting after Friday. It is only two days sooner. So I say you pack what you need, and I will pack my stuff, just enough to not have to go shopping tonight, and then we’ll go to a hotel in Marin for a week. I will bring you back to the agency tomorrow for the debriefing. But as we were planning to leave next week and I have listed the house to go to Julianne, why stay? What more of a push do we need? I have a few essential things I would like to bring, but it should not take more than thirty minutes. What about you?”
“Thirty minutes is plenty, but what should we do with the car? I don’t want to be separated! I can’t be without you.” She felt a few tears slip down her face.https://books2read.com/b/Day-the-skyfel-Ground-Zero

After the Rain
“Buddy will be so happy to see you.” He smiled at me again, opened his door, but paused. “I do not want him to jump on you and ruin that dress.
“Don’t worry about it; I’ll probably never wear it again.” I shrugged and put my hand on the handle.
“Let me get the door for you.” Ben jumped out and ran around to open my door. “And take my hand, just in case.” I was about to protest and tell him I was okay. But as I stood up, the world around me swam and danced. I grabbed his arm, thankful he had thought of it.
My bare feet had no problem walking up the rest of the driveway and the stairs. But I felt ridiculous. As he unlocked the front door, I looked down at my feet. The toes were turning white with the cold. He pushed the door open, and there was Buddy. He was indeed overjoyed to see me. He started licking my hands and wiggling his rear.
Ben started to pull me inside. But I hesitated. “What’s wrong?” came his instant response.
I didn’t look up at him. Instead, I pointed down at my feet. “Do you mind my bare feet?” I asked. It was hard to see them amid the dog’s paws and legs dancing around me.
“Do not even worry about it. And if you are cold, you can wear a pair of my socks.” He was shooing buddy back with his free hand without much success. “Hold on, let me get his collar.” He grabbed Buddy and pulled him back so that I could step inside without tripping. “Come over here and sit on the couch. And I will put him outside for a little while.”
“It is okay. I do not mind.” I replied. I sank into the couch, thankful to have a solid surface under my rear again. I giggled as Buddy licked my bare knee.
Ben watched me for a split second, surprised at the giggle. But then he continued by saying. “He has not been out in a few hours; it is time for him to go. I will put him out for a little while. I will be right back.” He walked away.Available July 8th
